Who We Are

Our Practice

Our experience in counseling enables us to offer effective outpatient, individualized, psychological care. We treat a number of mental health disorders, and provide a neutral ground to individuals, families, and couples.

Our Treatment Focus

Our focus is to help individuals heal, energize, and become aware of their inner strengths. We achieve this by providing a neutral safe space, listening to your concerns, and customizing a counseling treatment plan.

Our Patient Promise

We would be honored to walk with you through your journey of self-development and growth. Our goal is to help you heal from your struggles such as depression & anxiety and develop the skills to live a more abundant life.

Our Therapy

Depression & Anxiety

Depression, fear, and anxiety are some of the most common and uncomfortable emotions that we can experience at some point in our lives. Through counseling and treatment, we are able to help you grow in motivation, perspective, joy and peace/contentment.

Trauma & PTSD

Many individuals can experience symptoms associated with painful and traumatic circumstances. Anxiety, fear, and hopelessness are a few emotions that can linger post traumatic events. We can help you overcome these symptoms and guide you through the process of grief and healing.

Relationships

Relationship counseling can be beneficial to couples who are wanting to strengthen their emotional connection. Therapy sessions are held with couples and is a supportive place to discuss issues and solutions to help with effective communication, life goals, and intimacy.

Meet Our Counselors

Regina Turner, LPC, NCC: There is hope for all! After being a teacher in public schools for 14 years and a director of a faith-based non-profit that helped troubled teens and parents, for 2 years, I decided to go back to school to become a licensed therapist. I enjoy "walking" beside of people who are hurting and struggling with stress, anxiety, trauma, relationships and/or depression. I work with young adults, teens, adults, and couples. I am a wife, mother, and grandmother trying to love others right where they are. I retired from education where I spent more than 25 years working as a teacher and school counselor.  I have been a member and  the president of the Alabama Association of Student Assistance Programs.  Currently, I am supervising counselor for those working toward licensure.  I  have created and headed various committees and programs in both the education and prevention of at-risk behaviors for youth.  In addition, I was the executive director of an organization that worked with troubled teens and their parents. It is with much passion that that I approach counseling people, supervising counselors moving toward license, and  and facilitate CE opportunities for professionals who work in mental health fields.

Hey I'm Courtney Benjamin and I am one of the counselors here at HCT! I believe that people are born with enormous potential! That being said, sometimes situations occur in people’s lives which directly or indirectly impact the pace at which one may reach that potential. When people are able to identify at what point they stopped being an author in their lives, they can go back, pick up the pen, and begin re-writing their story. I bring an eclectic approach to the therapeutic relationship. I identify greatly with Adler’s view of what is healthy, in which an individual is understood within the context of his/her various social relationships. However, I also incorporate tenets of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Reality Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Solution Focused Therapy in consideration of a client centered treatment plan. Are you where you would like to be in relation to your career, family, health, education, or spirituality? Has your life become slightly, or significantly out of balance? Just as physical exams are facilitated to maintain wellness within the physical body, counseling “check-ups” are useful in achieving and maintaining mental health wellness. I have over 14 years of experience working with the adolescent population in various settings. In addition, I have extensive experience navigating the therapeutic journey with individuals ranging from ages 5-45 seeking assistance with various life obstacles. I welcome the opportunity to use the skills that I have attained in counseling to help others “take back their pen” for years to come.

Rachel Harrington graduated from the CACREP accredited program at the University of Montevallo in 2005.  She has spent the last 15 years working in schools, volunteering with an organization that helps families via education and small groups, and raising her young children. She has experience with all ages from kindergarten to senior year in addition to working with parents along the way.  She is a wife and the mother of three children.  She has an eclectic approach to therapy, which includes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Play Therapy, and Client Centered Therapy.  Rachel has a deep understanding of issues ranging from mood disorders to eating disorders, such as anorexia.  Rachel has an outstanding ability to meet the patient where they are and help them move through struggles.

Jennifer George, LPC, NCC. Jennifer has had more than 10 years experience in counseling and mental health in a variety of settings.  She has an eclectic model of therapy with a huge concentration in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). In addition, she comes from a Client Centered base where she believes the client and patient has the ability to overcome past wrongs and hurts and the ability to create new habits and ways of thinking to live more fully in the present.  Jennifer has experience working with children and adults in both group and individual settings.  She has experience in working with issues ranging from mood disorders, anxiety, family dynamics, to trauma.  As a school counselor she has led group-therapy on various topics such as “tips for success” and  “beyond death and/or divorce.” Jennifer is a person who cares about her clients and patients and enjoys the opportunity to help then learn and grow.  Jennifer is a wife, mother and grandmother.

Carol McKinney, Ed.S., LPC: Carol has worked in the counseling field for 23 years with the last 19 in the school setting as an elementary school counselor.  She has experience working with children and adolescents, parents, adults, and groups. She has experience helping those with issues ranging from ADHD, self-esteem, anxiety, trauma, to depression.  Carol’s approach to therapy is an eclectic one with a focus on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Client Centered Therapy.  As a counselor, she strives to help clients develop goals and motivate them to achieve their goals and gain success. She is married with one son and enjoys spending time with family and playing golf.

Jolei Higgins, Ed.S., LPC- After earning an undergraduate degree in psychology and both a Master of Arts and Educational Specialist degree in Agency Counseling, Jolei has worked for nearly thirty years in both inpatient and outpatient settings in addition to working with children and adolescents in a school setting. Currently, she sits on the Board of Directors for The City of Lights, a non-profit women’s recovery center.

Jolei’s passion and commitment is to help individuals and families find purpose, hope and healing in the face of life’s struggles. Using a variety of counseling strategies and a foundation of Christian principles, her desire is to help you find the best path toward change and personal growth.

Knowing that a client-centered approach where a warm non-judgmental atmosphere creates the best climate for truly exploring oneself, Jolei is committed to offering you a safe space to do just that. Working with individuals from ages six through adulthood, families and couples, she pulls from years of experience dealing with anxiety, depression, trauma, family of origin issues, addiction, life transitions and self-esteem.

A wife and mother who recently became a grandmother, Jolei loves spending time with family, traveling and photography. She would love to connect with you and take the next step toward healing and wholeness together.
